Animals are my friends

The moon cries in loneliness as today’s child chooses to stay inside glued to an electronic box, compartmentalized inside a temperature controlled facade, instead of going out in to the world, exploring caves, swimming with turtles, discovering nature’s beauty and perfection, caring a broken wing, feeding fish, finding real friends, friends who help the child as much or more than the other.

"Best Friends"
Warwak
Watercolor
13" x 13"

My gentler side. Yes, the boy is me. Before the world stripped me of my sensitivities. This was one of my first watercolors in college. I used an old black and white photo of myself as a 5 year old boy as source material. The kitten was my best friend. We were on a family vacation in northern Wisconsin in a simpler time when I found a real friend. We were inseparable. Here I am as I really am. And it breaks my heart to think what the world does to us little boys. And we grow up to be fishing guides who teach children killing is okay. I never asked for this. We should all be ashamed.

  2. Lovely Mr. Warwak... You really are quite a talent. That this photo/painting has such a personal connection in your vegan experience is all the more moving.

    Thanks for sharing -

  3. Nice picture. I got a couple of myself like that back at my parents' house in Connecticut. I know I might get retribution here, but I gotta come out and say that I am not a vegan. Not even a vegetarian. I have friends who are vegetarians who have explained some of their arguments to me. But one argument on the other side always wins it for me: I like meat. What can I say?

  4. Hopefully your eyes will open up. Society hides it well. Your saftey in numbers becomes personal when your are eating my friends and ruining my world. As far as valid arguments, corpse-munchers don't have a single one.

    What can you say?

    How about, "I am sorry."

Then change, as sorry is as sorry does.
