Obama demonizes spinach and peanut butter as the culprits threatening the American food supply

Obama frightened by peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? Talk about putting lipstick on a pig!

And this from BBC News,

Obama warns of US food 'hazard'

President Barack Obama has said the US food safety system is a "public health hazard" and in need of an overhaul.

He sounded the warning during his weekly radio and video address, as he appointed a new head of the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

New York Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg (a distant relative of the Hamburglar?) has been named for the post.

Mr Obama cited a string of recent food safety scandals including a salmonella outbreak in peanut products this year that has been linked to nine deaths.

The president said recent underfunding and understaffing at the FDA had left the agency unable to conduct annual inspections of more than a fraction of America's 150,000 food processing premises.

"That is a hazard to public health. It is unacceptable. And it will change under the leadership of Dr Margaret Hamburg," Mr Obama pledged.

He cited a contaminated spinach scare in 2006 and this year's salmonella peanut product outbreak, which left more than 600 people ill and led to one of the largest product recalls in US history.

Mr Obama said when he learned of the recall, he immediately thought of his seven-year-old daughter, Sasha, who eats peanut butter sandwiches several times a week.

"No parent should have to worry that their child is going to get sick from their lunch," he said.

Why no mention of the 143 million pounds of ground-up slaughtered bovine corpses Westland Beef recalled out of fears of Mad Cow? 75% of those drugged and diseased corpses were consumed by children in public schools. Those children might develop CJD symptoms as soon as 8 years from now. Obama likes barbeque a little more than our nation’s children/future.

And this from Yahoo Newsgroups,

Separately, Obama announced a ban on the slaughter of "downer" cows, which are too sick or weak to stand on their own, to keep them out of the food supply. These animals pose a higher risk of having mad cow disease, E. coli and other infections.

Huh? It already is illegal to slaughter "downer" cows, which are too sick or weak to stand on their own, to keep them out of the food supply. That one has been on the books since 1906 Mr President. Laws are a waste of time when corpse-munchers don't follow them. Attitudes change times.

Just more empty words (lack of action) to ease public fears. Obama is making sure we will remain a corpse-munching nation now that he is hard on the case. I smell happy meat. Murder is as murder does. How nice of that one.
